Well, my annual post is a bit different this year, because Hurricane Florence has been a good distraction this week. But it is still there, lingering in the back of my mind’s shadows, wanting to be noticed…9/11.
Hurricane Florence could be one of the biggest hurricanes to hit the area, a huge natural disaster for NC. But it serves as a focal point, a distraction from the memories that lurk in the background from 2001 and 2010. That grief that hovers, never leaving, just a dark cloud gliding silently overhead.
It is funny how different things hit each time this date rolls around the calendar. Last year, I just wanted to sit in silence and solitude and wallow, letting it all just wash over me, sitting and remembering. This year, I don’t even want to think about it. This year, I am more focused on the present than the past due to the coming hurricane. But don’t think the past is unnoticed. It refuses to be forgotten. It should be remembered. A piece of my heart will always remain missing, but I will see her again someday.
Please join me in praying for all of us in the path of Hurricane Florence. If nothing else, 9/11 should serve as a reminder that we all need to live life together, working together, and helping one another, especially during hard times or tragedy. Check on your friends, family and neighbors and see how they are doing, whether you are affected by the hurricane or not.
Be safe, ya’ll.

Important Dates for Me
9/11/01 – The day that we all know and remember when our hearts were broken.
9/11/10 – The day my daughter died.
9/11/18 – One of the preparation days as we sit in the path of Hurricane Florence.
God bless and protect you all.
